We have given a lot of reviews of different bags lately (see the article on nursing student bags for example), but we’ve been waiting to review some of the best nursing bags for home health nurses for quite some time. Home health care nurses need a bag that fits in their car, is easy to lug around, has a lot of compartments, is big enough to hold all of their supplies, and is small enough to fit on their front seat. Finding the perfect bags for home health nurses is a challenge, but luckily there are quite a few good ones.

As my wife (Nurse Stacey) is a former home health nurse, she helped me to pick out the bags that she would want to have. We will add to this list as we can, but here are a few to think about that you can easily buy at a local store or online:

home health shoulder nursing bagHome Health Shoulder Bag– This one has everything that you could want in a bag. It has an external pocket to hold your patients’ records, two zippered pouches on the ends for pens and such, a padded shoulder strap that can be adjusted and removed, two additional zippered compartments, and one compartment that is big enough to hold a legal pad that folds down. The overall dimensions are 14″ x 11″ x 7″. This is the original bag that is manufactured by Hopkins Medical Products. We found it online at Amazon for under $40 brand new. It’s made from a waterproof nylon material, and the flap in the front can fold down so that you have a clean work space to write/work on. There’s even enough room in it to store a small laptop or notepad computer. If you are looking for an all around perfect home health bag, it’s hard to go wrong with this one.

padded home health bagPadded Home Care Bag– This is a great home health care nursing bag due to it’s size and the number of compartments that it has. It’s also made by Hopkins Medical Products and you can buy it online for around $40 or less. It’s made from a black and heavy polyester material that is stain resistant and waterproof. There is a large main compartment that measures just over 12″ x 8″ x 4″. There is a large pouch on the front that measures around 11″ x 6″ x 2″. The overall dimensions are 12.5″ x 9.5″ x 5″. There is a carrying handle along with an adjustable shoulder strap that can be removed. There are 4 zippered compartments and 6 pouches to hold all of your supplies. This is a very versatile bag that is designed to hold all of your supplies for visiting patients. It’s made very well and meant to last.

As promised, we will continue to update this page with other home health bag reviews as soon as possible, If you have a review, or a suggestion, we would love to hear from you!

If you, or someone that you know, is a nursing school student (or is about to be one), it’s really important to find a nursing bag that is ideal for them. Why is that? Well, you will be carrying around about 100 pounds of books, notebooks, pens, paper, pencils, a calculator, scissors, a stethoscope, some snacks such as cookies to tide you over, Tylenol, and who knows what else will be in there! In other words, you need the best nursing bag that you can find, unless you plan on doing some weightlifting to bulk up!

We have already talked about a bunch of bags, and we will continue reviewing them when we can. Before we show some of the bags that we think are perfect for nurse students, you may want to look at these articles: cute bags, the best bags for 2015, and some gift ideas for students.

Now let’s get to the main point. In our opinion, the following reviews represent the perfect bags for nursing school students to use:

nursing images rolling carry all tote bag for nurse studentsNursing Images Rolling Carry All Tote Bag: Made by Olympia, this is one heavy duty bag that you can count on! At a price of only $39 on Amazon, it’s a steal. The base color is black and it has a bunch of cute medical symbols on it such as band-aids and scissors. It’s actually the same size as a carry on luggage, so there’s tons of room for all of your books, a laptop, and everything else you would ever want to put in it. Unless you are packing a cadaver, you will not run out of room. Most importantly, you can roll it! You could also lift it up with the small handle, but why in the world would you want to lift up a ton of bricks (books)? Instead of throwing everything into a heavy backpack, you can put everything into this bag and just roll it from class to class. The top of it zips and unzips, making it easy access. There are also several compartments to put your pens and small items in. It’s seriously amazing!

nurse mates pink camouflage nursing school bagNurse Mates Pink Camouflage Ultimate Nursing Bag: This one is made by Nurse Mates, a company that is well regarded for building superior goods for the medical field. Even though this one doesn’t roll like the one above, it’s just amazing! Every student in your class will be jealous when they see this bag. Of course every lady loves pink, but the camouflage design on this one just makes it an absolute eye catcher! You can probably find it at your local medical supply store, but you just can’t compete with buying it online. I found it on sale at Amazon for only around $40, whereas we found it in a brick and mortar store for nearly $100! The fabric is water resistant (your books won’t get wet) and stain resistant (you won’t look like a hobo). It has heavy duty zippers that won’t fall apart from trying to overfill it. It has a padded handle that you can use to carry it, or a long, padded shoulder strap to throw it over your shoulder. There are tons of compartments and zippers for you to hide all of your goodies, and it’s easily big enough to put a laptop and books in it. Our review: if you’re not going to get a bag that rolls, this is the best bag for nursing school students on the market!

We will continue to add to this list of the best bags for nursing school students when we can. In the meantime, make sure you register for our free bag giveaway drawing that is held at the end of every month. If you have any reviews or opinions on bags for students, we would love to hear from you. Just leave a comment in the box below.

We recently talked about some of the best nurse bags in 2015, so I wanted to follow it up with a list of the cutest nursing bags in 2015. Being a guy, I’m obviously not the expert on this subject, so I begged my wife (Nurse Stacey, a night shift RN) to help me. She promised to pick the ones that she thought were really cute, and tell me what she thought about them, just as long as I did all of the writing. Without further ado, according to Stacey, here are some really cute nursing bags to consider buying in 2015, along with her review of each of them.

cute pink ultimate nursing bagPink Ultimate Medical Bag- We talked about this one before, but Stacey just loves it! Maybe she’s just giving me a hint for a future gift idea, but in her opinion this is the cutest bag for a nurse ever. She’s a big fan of anything, so of course this would be her first choice. It’s made by the Shoe Soft company. It sells for around $35 on Amazon, but Stacey said she saw the same one at a local uniform shop for $60 or so. It’s water resistant and made out of nylon. It has two handles: one for carrying and one to throw over your shoulder. The measurements are 13″ x 9″ x 14″. It also has a holder for a syringe and a key ring attached to it.There are tons of pockets and plenty of space to store all of your goodies like snacks to bring to work. Nurse Stacey’s final review: “Cutest nursing bag ever!” Enough said.

cute nurse stick tote bagMedical Stick Nurse Bag- We haven’t reviewed this one yet. It’s a tote bag for nurses that’s made by the Prestige company. At only around $11 on Amazon (we found it at a local store for $25), I’m a huge fan of it too! Instead of having a zipper there’s a small Velcro strip to close it. Compared to the Ultimate Medical Bag, it’s small (it’s a tote!), but it’s big enough to hold a folder, pens, and a few necessities. If you just want a little tote that you can carry on your shoulder that’s lite and simple, this is a great choice. Since it’s so cheap, it’s an easy gift to give a nurse too. The best part about it is the adorable cartoon nurse figure on it with a shot in her hand and a smile on her face. Nurse Stacey’s final review: “The little cartoon nurse with a needle is so cute! I want one!”

cute nurse compact carry caseLove and Believe Medical 745 Compact Carry Case- Since it’s just a carrying case, it’s not really a nursing bag, but Stacey said I have to include it because she wants one so bad. At just 6″ x 9″ it’s big enough to carry your scissors, pens, notes, makeup and a few things. If you need a bag to lug all of your work stuff around, this isn’t yours. If you want something cute that will hold a few things, Stacey says this is the one for you. It’s made by the Prestige company and is made with nylon. It has a zipper closure for the main pocket, and Velcro for the small side pocket. At only around $11 on Amazon, it’s just great. Nurse Stacey’s final review: “What a cute little bag with bright and fun colors!”

We will add on to this list throughout the year. If you have any reviews or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment. We would love to hear from you.

nurse magazines onlineIn our recent writing about the best nurse gift ideas, one thing that was mentioned was magazine subscriptions. Every nurse loves magazines! Of course you have the usual gossip and celebrity magazines like People and the Enquirer, but we wanted to take a look at some of the best nursing magazines that are focused on nurses in particular. After speaking with many nurses, we came up with this list of the top ten magazine choices. You can buy all of these subscriptions directly from the publisher, of you can make your life easier by buying them online from companies such as Amazon.

  1. Critical Care Nurse- This one comes out every two months, or 1 times a year. It is written by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. If you buy a subscription online, it will cost you around $6.50 an issue, or $39 a year.
  2. Registered Nurse Journal- This one is also issued once every two months, or twice a year. It is published by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. You can buy a yearly subscription online for around $42.
  3. Beginnings- If you are into holistic nursing, or want more information on the career field, this one is for you. It comes out 6 times a year, and you can purchase a subscription online for around $36. It is published by the American Holistic Nurses association.
  4. Oncology Nurse Advisor- This one is published by Haymarket Medical. They print 6 issues a year, and it will cost you around $12.50 an issue.
  5. American Journal of Critical Care- It’s published by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. You can receive 6 issues a year for around $59 if you buy it from Amazon.
  6. Nursing & Residential Care- At a whopping $987 a year for 12 issues, this is absolutely one of the most expensive nursing magazines. I just want someone to buy it and review it for me so that I can figure out why it costs so much! It’s published by Ma Healthcare Ltd.
  7. British Journal of Nursing- This is the only magazine that I could find that will cost you more than the last one. Then again, you do get 22 issues a year. At only $1,438 a year, I guess that’s a bargain? It is also published by Ma Healthcare Ltd.
  8. Journal of Diabetes Nursing- It’s published by SB Communications Group. They have 10 issues a year, and it will cost you around $220.
  9. Alberta RN- It’s published by the College & Association of RN Alberta. 6 issues a year will cost you around $47.
  10. Creative Nursing- Issued by Springer Publishing Company, they have just 4 issues a year. It costs around $79.

So there you have it, our list of the top 10 nurse magazines. If you know a nurse that deserves a gift, you can use this list to find something for them.
