we're moving on upI just wanted to take a few moments to share the status of Hug Your Nurse, make sure that everyone knows about our giveaway, update you on the status of the forums, and to thank everyone for all of their help.

As this site that is built for you (nurses) just passed it’s one month anniversary (yes, we’re a baby), we also broke past 100 articles on the site. As of this writing, we are actually up to 113 pages of content online! That’s pretty dang good for a newbie site, and I can promise you that a lot of work has gone into it. We’re gearing up in a big way over the coming months. We have signed up two new writers that will be helping a lot, and we have a press release that should be running by next week to announce our “grand opening”.

We always take requests for what nurses want to read about, so I hope that you continue to give us feedback on what you think we should talk about. So far, the response has been phenomenal! I have received so many emails and comments from nurses all over the world. I am truly honored. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I hope that most of you know that we are running a monthly promotion that everyone can enter. If you are not familiar with it, please FOLLOW THIS LINK TO REGISTER. We are giving a free nursing bag (the ultimate nursing bag!) away at the end of every month. All you have to do to registerĀ is follow that link to the Free Nursing Bag page. Just leave a comment on it, located at the bottom of the page. Then just share the page on any social platform such as Face Book, Google +, Twitter, etc. At the end of the month we are randomly drawing one name. That lucky person wins the bag. If you weren’t lucky on that drawing, your name remains in the pool for the next drawing. Our first winner will be announced on January 31, 2015!

Now about the forums…. it has been a pain in the butt! We had almost everything working just fine on them. We even had quite a few of you that were having fun on them. Then we had a major problem and had to temporarily take them down. I have been working behind the scenes every day to have it fixed, and it looks like we will be ready to re-launch the forums next week. I can’t promise that, but it’s looking very good to do so.

Once again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for supporting Hug Your Nurse! If I can ever return the favor, please get in touch with me through the Contact page, or by leaving a comment/message anywhere on the site. Thank you!

help wanted signAttention all nurses: I need your help!

To officially announce the arrival of Hug Your Nurse, I will be issuing a press release next week to all of the major news media. The press release deals with nurses and their reactions to Obamacare. I have already interviewed quite a few nurses to get their opinions on the legislation, but I need a few more. If you are interested in sharing your opinions on the topic, I would really appreciate it. We can use your real name, if you wish, or we can use a pen name. It’s your call. If you have ever wanted to voice your opinion on a major topic that effects you, and to do so on a national level that will be carried by all of the national and international news outlets, here’s your chance. Your voice will be heard, and I will owe you a major favor.

I also need a few guest writers. I am looking for anyone that works in the healthcare industry to write a few articles for me. It can be on any subject that nurses are interested in. If you have ever wanted to be a writer that can say whatever you want to say, and to be read by thousands of people from around the world, this is a great opportunity. As the site is not commercial in nature, it will be on a voluntary basis. What I can offer you is credibility. a chance to build up your portfolio, and the ability to promote any cause of your choosing.

If you are interested in either of these opportunities, please please contact me asap. Thank you!

hug a nurse dayLet’s get the most important question out of the way. When is Hug A Nurse Day in 2015? It’s the same day every year- on May 12. So the international Hug A Nurse Day this year will be on 5-12-2015.

Now that this is out of the way, why is the holiday celebrated on May 12? Because that is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. That is also the last day of Nurses Week that runs from May 6 thru May 12.If you are not familiar with Nightingale, she is widely considered to be the founder of modern nursing. She worked with wounded soldiers during the Crimean war, and created sterile environment guidelines that are still being used today.

What are you supposed to do on Hug A Nurse Day? Maybe you should just find a nurse that you like (or any will do) and give them a hug! It’s your chance to say “thank you” and to let them know that you care about them. You could even consider buying them a nurse gift or a magazine subscription, but a hug is all that’s required.

So when May 12th rolls around, don’t forget to grab a nurse and give them a hug!

nurse blogI have been reading blogs since they were first invented. I follow a number of blogs on various subjects, including a bunch of nursing blogs.

I just wanted to share a quick list of some of my favorite nurse blogs. While I rarely comment on any blog, I do follow a bunch of them. Here are my top 5 nurse blogs that I follow on a regular basis, and that you may want to check out as well:

  1. Madness Tales Of An Emergency Room Nurse– If you have ever wondered what it is like to be an inner city emergency room nurse, this is the blog for you! It’s down to earth, real, and she has been posting to it practically every day since 2011.
  2. Head Nurse– Another down to earth nursing blogger. What I really like about this one is that the subjects are mixed. It’s not all nurse talk. She has been posting regularly to her site for over 10 years now!
  3. Adventures Of A Labor Nurse– If you want to know what it’s like to be a L & D nurse, here’s your blog to learn about it. She posts regularly, the site is easy on the eyes, and there is a ton of useful information packed into it.
  4. Adventures Of Hood Nurse– OK, she’s not really a nurse, but she used to be a CNA, and she is just flat out freaking funny! She quit blogging for a bit but recently came back on the scene (read this post), and I’m really hoping she stays. Read her posts and be prepared to crack up!
  5. New Nurse Blog– This is a blog written by a relatively new nurse. She has tons of advice and information for new nurses or people thinking about going to nursing school.

Do you have a blog that should be added to the list? Is there any blog that you follow that should be mentioned? Feel free to drop a link at the bottom and I will include it.
