Let’s get the most important question out of the way. When is Hug A Nurse Day in 2015? It’s the same day every year- on May 12. So the international Hug A Nurse Day this year will be on 5-12-2015.
Now that this is out of the way, why is the holiday celebrated on May 12? Because that is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. That is also the last day of Nurses Week that runs from May 6 thru May 12.If you are not familiar with Nightingale, she is widely considered to be the founder of modern nursing. She worked with wounded soldiers during the Crimean war, and created sterile environment guidelines that are still being used today.
What are you supposed to do on Hug A Nurse Day? Maybe you should just find a nurse that you like (or any will do) and give them a hug! It’s your chance to say “thank you” and to let them know that you care about them. You could even consider buying them a nurse gift or a magazine subscription, but a hug is all that’s required.
So when May 12th rolls around, don’t forget to grab a nurse and give them a hug!
